Tourism Ireland: Guerrilla Greenings

To get ready for St Patrick's Day, Tourism Ireland is turning the world green. In the past Niagara Falls, the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, Leaning Tower of Pisa and London Eye (to name but a few) have all gone green in honor of the day.

With all these icons green, we thought it'd be great to take it down to a personal level. What would you turn green to get ready for St Patrick's day? Do you have a yellow house in need of a fresh coat of green paint? Maybe every lightbulb in your building can be replaced with a green bulb, to shine emerald through the night. Perhaps your grandmother would volunteer to be green for a week and proudly walk the streets of your city. Or maybe your little pooch will sit still and let you turn him green if you promise him a juicy steak.

Help us create a global campaign to promote Ireland and get ready for St Patrick's day by turning something in your life green. We will use the best ‘greenings’ to encourage the world to go green through a multi media campaign including Facebook and YouTube. Capture the uniqueness of Ireland by capturing the uniqueness of a 'guerrilla greening' in your corner of the world.

Your mission

Create a short film or a still image that demonstrates your ‘guerrilla greening.' It needs to be eye catching, fun and inspirational. We're not looking for fictional greenings or digital manipulations, we're looking for something original, fun, unique and real that hasn’t been seen before, and that people will want to share with their friends.

For videos, you could film the process of your guerrilla greening, or people's reactions to it, or any other hook that shows off the fun of your green endeavor.

We're not looking for digital manipulations, but things in real-life turned green and documented in a still or a video.


  • Videos and still images must feature a real-life greening. No digital manipulations.
  • Each video must be 60 seconds or less (30 seconds preferred)
  • If the video contains a non-English voiceover, then English subtitles must be included.
  • Do NOT break any laws to accomplish your greening.
  • You must have proper commercial license for any stock music, images or video used, and a signed talent release for each person featured in your submission. Talent release available in Materials Downloads.

Additional information

The content generated will be used for Tourism Ireland and partner promotions in promoting the island of Ireland as a holiday destination. Your content should inspire others to join in the guerrilla greening fun. Help turn the world green!
